Lap Band

Obesity surgery is seen as a last resort for the morbidly obese.

People who have tried and failed to lose weight over a period of at least one year, who have been obese for five years or longer, may be good candidates for the surgery. When people think of obesity surgery, gastric bypass surgery comes to mind. However, there are other options for weight loss surgery, including the lap band procedure.Gastric bypass surgery reroutes the digestive system, shortening it, and reducing the size of the stomach. It is invasive surgery that can result in complications such as deep vein blood clots or malnutrition. In addition, it is not reversible.
A newer procedure, the lap band obesity surgery, is done laparoscopically and is also considered safer. One of its major benefits is that it is fully reversible. Another is that it requires a shorter hospital stay. In addition, it can be adjusted as time goes by, to help facilitate or stabilize weight loss.
The procedure involves implementing a band around the stomach, creating a smaller stomach pouch, slowing down the flow of food into the larger portion of the stomach and the rest of the digestive tract.Thousands of patients undergo this procedure every year in the U.S. and around the world. For substantial savings while having the procedure performed by well-qualified, board-certified physicians, consider coming to the Bajanor Obesity Center for your obesity surgery.

Lap Band Surgeons.

During lap band surgery, a lap band surgeon will place a band around the upper portion of your stomach. This creates a small stomach pouch, called a neostoma, that holds a limited portion of food. This is because the nerves that signal the brain when your stomach is full are located in the upper part of your stomach. The band allows the food you eat to slowly be released into the lower portion of your stomach to be digested.
There are fewer risks and complications with this surgery than with other types of weight loss surgery. The band has a tube attached to it with a port that doctors can access. They can fill the port to add saline solution into the band, which increases the restriction on your stomach. Adjustments are usually made every four to six weeks following surgery, depending on your individual circumstances.
Your doctor can make adjustments as he or she sees fit, according to how much weight you are losing and whether you are having any side effects. With the lap band procedure, you should lose weight gently and steadily over a period of 18 months to three years. Your doctor may add fluid to the band, further restricting it, if you show inadequate weight loss or you don't feel full for very long after meals, or feel hungry between meals.
If you are taking in an increased volume of meals, your doctor may also decide to add fluid.Removal of fluid is done for several reasons, easing the restriction. This may be necessary if you have trouble ingesting a wide range of foods, because a balanced diet is necessary for health. Your doctor may also remove some fluid if you experience vomiting, heartburn, or reflux, or if you go back to poor eating habits that do not conform with the surgery. Testimonials

“ Just thought that I would let you know that I finally hit my initial goal weight of 150 lbs. I'm thinking that for my height and body frame I should be somewhere between 130 and 145 lbs, so that is the next goal! I still have tenderness where the port relocation was done but other than that I feel great! "
